There’s no harm in being reminded once in a while how the vintage muscle car scene inspired owners to experiment and tweak their rides, just like a Michelin-starred chef with their recipes. Each driver used their recipe of mechanical know-how, and a combination of parts to make the optimum street machine.
The video below shortlists 10 possible candidates for the fastest muscle cars of the 1960s, generally as they were straight from the factory.
The candidates include – the 1968 Shelby GT500 KR ,1969 Pontiac GTO Judge, 1968 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 RS, 1969 Plymouth Cuda 440, 1968 Pontiac GTO Royal Bobcat, 1969 Hurst Oldsmobile 442, 1969 Dodge Charger R/T HEMI, 1969 Plymouth GTX 440, 1969 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1, and the 1969 Plymouth Road Runner A12.
Its no surpirse the examples above all hover around the 1969 year. Peak power levels hit a zenith around 1970 for muscle cars, before all the restrictions, which also coinsided with some of the most classic muscle car designs.
